Reliability Enhancement for your EJ255/257 Turbo Engine
Cylinder #4 piston is almost always the first/only piston to crack the ringlands. It is several thousand dollars to fix a broken piston. The coolant passage through the left head on the rear of the engine is insufficient causing Cyl #4 to run hot. Rod bearings can also be a problem, but just use 5w40 oil and the bearings aren’t an issue anymore.
Increasing the coolant flow through the rear of the cylinder head reduces cylinder temps significantly, allowing the engine to see less knock and therefore last longer. The right side head has this coolant flow because the turbo is fed through the rear of the head.
You’re going to want to invest in saving your engine. Our balance kit will give you the confidence to push your engine further knowing it will reduce the chance of knock and allow the Cyl #4 piston to last longer.
